Can you tell me if I buy a whole house water filter, would I still need to use a shower filter or even a drinking water filter?

I will probably buy from you guys, you seem to have the best price and free shipping too.

Healthygirl,

If you are on city water, once you have a whole house water filter system you would not need a shower filter or drinking water filter. You would have pure, clean water through your entire home. If you are on well water, we suggest a UV bacteria light to kill any bacteria in the water.

Will the drinking water then be the same quality as it would be if I had an aquasana counter top or under the counter water filter?

It's not I don't believe you, BUT I would to understand. Also, if you have a whole house filter with the water softner, won't some of the salt get into the drinking water?

Thanks for the prompt response.

If I buy a filter for the whole house, I will definitely buy from you guys!

Good points Healthygirl,

With a whole house filter you will get the same quality of water for your entire home, instead of just at your sink. The Aquasana drinking system does, however, offer two added benefits a whole house filter doesn't offer. Any drinking water filter will take out lead and some, like the Aquasana drinking system, will take out fluoride as well. If you need to remove either of those items, we recommend getting both units.

Now, yes most softeners will add salt into your water. In those cases an RO Drinking system is needed to remove the salt. However the Pelican Filtersorb SP Salt Free Softener will soften your water without adding salt. This way you will still have good drinking water.

Should I be concerned about the water getting contaminated with bacteria in the pipes AFTER it leaves the filter and travels into the home?

We purchased your whole house filter and softner for 1-3 bathrooms. Previously had a salt softner.

Can you tell me what to expect in the beginning?

We are on day 4.

We are drinking the tap water now and it tastes great. Showering feels different and hair is softer.

But there is a white film on the stainless steel kitchen sink. Our Bosch dishwasher that usually leaves dishes sparkling is leaving a white film on glasses that can be whiped off.

Is this typical? Is this scale? Or is it salt getting removed from the pipes after the old softener that was releasing a ton of "brine" into our water?

Dear Kim,

Yes this is normal. As the system descales your pipes, the water will show more white film then normal but once the de-scaling is complete, in 1-4 weeks, that will get better.

Aparna,

If you are on city water, no. The water is pre-treated by the city for bacteria, so there would be no bacteria in the water. If you are on well water. It is recommended a UV light is added to disinfect the water. You can also on city water add a UV as extra protection if you are concerned about bacteria.

Thank you for your answer.

We figured out that it is the hot water only.

We replaced the hot water heater since we needed one anyway.

We still see the white film.

It has only been a week 1/2, so we will keep watching for it to stop.

It must be the scale in the pipes.

We don't see it at all with the cold water.

Kim,

Since the hot water side is the one used more with the dish washer and sink that is likely why you are seeing more of the scale there. Again that will begin to reduce once the de-scaling is complete. If you havnt done so already, try adding an all natural rinse agent called "LemiShine" in with your normal detergent for dishes and that will help eliminate the white film on glasses quickly for you while the system descales.

Thanks for your response, Ernest. Is there a decent water filter out there that I don't have to spend$800 for? Your recommendations will help me with my choice.

Dear Aparna,

Our most popular filter for city water is the Pelican PC600 which sells for $749. It has little to no maintanence on it, having only to replace the carbon once every 5 years at just $156. This model is the one i would recommend for you.
