The water in my area (So Calif.) tastes horrible, plus it is very hard (40 gr.). So when I bought a brand new house a month ago, the first thing I wanted to do was install the best (as well as salt-free)whole house water conditioning filter. I started comparing water systems on the market, including a local competitor, Life Source. After much research & several calls to Mark in customer service (who was very good at answering all my questions), I decided on the Pelican PSE2000 Whole House Water Filter and Softener, with pre- & post-filters.
And I am glad I did! The water is delicious to drink & my capuccinos taste great. Glassware is not covered with a hard water film. Bathing & laundry are a pleasure with soft water. My glass showers stalls just get a daily misting with shower cleaner & look good. As is stated, there are still mineral spots that collect where water pools or splashes (like my stainless steel sink), but they clean off with minimal effort.
There are some additional expenses to consider: professional installation of the system in my garage cost around $500, including materials. Then I hired a drywaller to patch the hole in the garage wall. The total cost is still less than the price of the Life Source unit alone.
Now, I am looking forward to years of hassle-free enjoyment of good tasting, healthy soft water. Also, there's the benefit of keeping my pipes & Rinnai tankless heater clear of mineral deposits. And no salt is used, so the technology is "Green". That's a lot of pluses; and I am very pleased.
