How does UV disinfection work?

UV light penetrates and permanently alters the DNA of the microorganisms in a process called thymine dimerization. The microorganisms are inactivated and rendered unable to reproduce or infect. Analogy: a broken zipper.

Q. What does the Pro model have that the Max or Plus models do not?

When you purchase a Pro model UV system, you are getting the same great UV disinfection the normal model has, but with added peace of mind and security. All Plus models include the lamp-age display and alarm system w/reset button. They also include a UV intensity montior, which is used to keep a close eye on the amount of UV you are getting into your water.

The UV Intensity Montior is required in some states when installing a UV (contact your water company or building inspector) and will ensure that you are getting proper disinfection. If the UV intensity begins to drop, then you know its time to clean the sleeve or replace the lamp. Another added safety feature is NSF certification that this UV system will guarantee you proper UV disinfection by use of a flow restrictor preventing you from pushing too much water through the system. This NSF certification will ensure the required 40m/J level of UV for complete disinfection of your water. CoolTouch may be required for your installation.

Q. What is a CoolTouch and why would I need it?

A CoolTouch system is needed for all UV systems that have UV intensity montiors where water is not in use 24/7. The CoolTouch will move water through the UV chamber to reduce the tempurature of the water. If the water is allowed to get too warm, the UV intensity monitor will show that the UV intensity is too low and set off an alarm. This CoolTouch helps to prevent that alarm from going off and also keeps the water cool inside the chamber. Since the UV lamp is always on, if water is not in use all the time, adding this is a requirement.

Q. Is there a lot of maintenance required with a UV system?

A. All you have to do is priodically clean the lamp sleeve and replace your lamp once every 2 years - simple processes you can complete in minutes. For ease of handling the lamp and protective quartz sleeve are designed as one component, but can be replaced seperatly. No tools are required for maintenance

Q. What type of warranty does the Trojan UV Max Systems come with?

A. The Trojan UV Max comes with a full five year warranty against manufacturer's defects on the power supply and all electrical components; a ten year guarantee on the water chamber; and a one year warranty on lamps and UV intensity monitors.

Q. Why is it recommend to pretreat the water before installing a Trojan UV Max System?

A. A 5-micron sediment pre-filter  is recommend to remove dirt and debris. The reason for this pretreatment is the quality of the water can not only affect the dosage of UV disinfection the system provides, it may also cause premature "sleeve fouling"  which will require the sleeve to be cleaned more often, and may also damage the UV sleeve.

How does the PC1000 Premium Whole House Water Filter work?
The PC1000 Premium Whole House Water Filter utilizes a multi stage filtration process to filter the water going into you home. If the water hardness is tested after the system is installed will the hardness level be different?
If the water is tested after the NaturSoft™ System is installed the hardness level will remain the same or even test slightly harder due to the existing scale being removed from the plumbing. Once the plumbing lines are de-scaled, the hardness will revert to the original hardness level. The healthy minerals will remain in the water without the negative side effects.

Do the NaturSoft™ Systems have any negative effects on the human body?

What are the differences between NaturSoft™ and Filtersorb resin?
NaturSoft™ resin is made in the USA and Filtersorb SP resin is made overseas. The hardness capacity of the NaturSoft™ resin is up tp 75 grains per gallon (higher than others on the market). NaturSoft ™ resin is exclusive to Pelican Water Technologies™ . If it's not a Pelican™ , it's not NaturSoft™ .

Why do the Pelican™ Systems not require backwashing?
Pelican™ Systems operate in an up-flow design rather than the traditional down-flow. The reason for backwashing is to fluff the media bed and not to wash out contaminants as most people are lead to believe. The Pelican Systems media is continuously being fluffed in the up-flow design from the normal water flow. Other down-flow systems have a tendency to channel causing the media to be ineffective. The Pelican™ Systems uses an up-flow design to be more effective and avoid those possibilities.

If you are on a private (individual) well and do not receive a water bill: The water treated should be free of hydrogen sulfide (sulfur gas / rotten egg smell), oils and high levels of copper. Any will coat the surface of the media on the NaturSoft™ System and will interfere reducing its efficiency. If any iron or manganese is present in the source water, the media will cause it to be oxidized i.e. causing or accentuating staining in the building. If any of these issues exist, you should employ pre-treatment prior to using this system.

How does the PC1000 Premium Whole House Water Filter work?
The PC1000 Premium Whole House Water Filter utilizes a multi stage filtration process to filter the water going into you home. The first stage removes chlorine and enhances pH balance through a process that uses (KDF-55) a natural copper/zinc mineral media.

How it works

When water comes in contact with the media filament inside the fabric pouch, the chlorine ions in the water are converted into a harmless chloride. The toxic effects of chlorine, chloriamines, and chlorine gas are eliminated with the aid of a special media. Chlorine is removed quickly when the Crystal Ball is circulated through the bath water. The crystalline quartz mixed with the media reduces the molecular structure of water into smaller clusters enhancing sudsing and lathering of soap.

The Crystal Ball for the Bath dechlorinates the water by placing it into the tub and pulling it through the water with the attached 12-inch cord for a few minutes. For best results, do not hang ball from spout while filling tub. Important: when using bubble bath, oils, epsom salts, etc, be sure to add them AFTER dechlorination is complete. The 12-inch cord is also used to hang the ball on a hook or fixture to dry between uses. Please remove it from the bathtub before using the tub to avoid the possibility of stepping on the plastic ball. If you add more water to the tub while bathing you may swirl the Crystal Ball through the water for another minute or so to remove any new chlorine.

How does the PC600 Premium Whole House Water Filter work?
The PC600 Premium Whole House Water Filter utilizes a multi stage filtration process to filter the water going into you home. The PC600 uses the highest grade carbons available on the market which were designed/developed to completely remove or significantly reduce chlorine, sediment and/or particulate matter, VOC's, SOC's (synthetic organic chemicals), THM's, atrazine, benzene, pesticides, tastes, odors and hundreds of the potential contaminants and harmful chemicals from the water supply entering your home.  Once you have experienced filtered water you will not want to leave home.

If the water hardness is tested after the system is installed will the hardness level be different?
If the water is tested after the NaturSoft™ System is installed the hardness level will remain the same or even test slightly harder due to the existing scale being removed from the plumbing.  Once the plumbing lines are de-scaled, the hardness will revert to the original hardness level.  The healthy minerals will remain in the water without the negative side effects. 

Do the NaturSoft™ Systems have any negative effects on the human body?
No, if your water supply is safe before it enters the NaturSoft™ System it will be safe after the system.  NaturSoft™ Systems do not add any chemicals to the water therefore there is no harmful effect.  NaturSoft™ Systems leave in the beneficial minerals that are healthy for the human body.

What are the differences between NaturSoft™ and Filtersorb SP resin?
NaturSoft™ resin is made in the USA and Filtersorb SP resin is made overseas.  The hardness capacity of the NaturSoft™ resin is up to 75 grains per gallon (higher than others on the market).  NaturSoft™ resin is exclusive to Pelican Water Technologies™.  If it's not a Pelican™, it's not NaturSoft™.

Why do the Pelican™ Systems not require backwashing?
Pelican™ Systems operate in an up-flow design rather than the traditional down-flow. The reason for backwashing is to fluff the media bed and not to wash out contaminants as most people are lead to believe.  The Pelican Systems media is continuously being fluffed in the up-flow design from the normal water flow.  Other down-flow systems have a tendency to channel causing the media to be ineffective.  The Pelican™ Systems uses an up-flow design to be more effective and avoid those possibilities.

Note Canadian Customers: Shipments into Canada may be subject to duty taxes set by your local Magistrate.  To avoid delay in your shipment, if you have a customs broker, ship your unit to them.  Amount of duty taxes vary by location.

If you are on a private (individual) well and do not receive a water bill: The water treated should be free of hydrogen sulfide (sulfur gas / rotten egg smell), oils, and high levels of copper. They will coat the surface of the media on the NaturSoft™ System and will interfere reducing its efficiency. If any iron or manganese is present in the source water, the media will cause it to be oxidized i.e. causing or accentuating staining in the building. If any of these issues exist, you should employ pre-treatment prior to using this system.

If you are on a private (individual) well and do not receive a water bill: The water treated should be free of hydrogen sulfide (sulfur gas / rotten egg smell), oils, and high levels of copper. They will coat the surface of the media on the NaturSoft™ System and will interfere reducing its efficiency. If any iron or manganese is present in the source water, the media will cause it to be oxidized i.e. causing or accentuating staining in the building. If any of these issues exist, you should employ pre-treatment prior to using this system.
